Otago beaten by the light

6:45 pm on 21 March 2012

Bad light in Dunedin's saved the Canterbury cricketers in their domestic Plunket Shield game against Otago.

The hosts looked set to climb off the bottom of the table before darkness killed their chances with Otago needing just nine runs to win with five wickets remaining in the final session at University Oval.

Competition leaders Northern also drew their match with second-placed Auckland at Colin Maiden Park. Play was abandoned due to rain on the last day.

No change in third and fourth place either with Wellington and Central drawing their match at Karori Park.
