The Waikato golfer Emily Perry has won the New Zealand stroke play title after beating world number one Lydia Ko in a play-off in Hastings.

21-year-old Perry sank a 2 metre birdie putt on the first hole of sudden death to beat Ko after the pair finished regulation tied on 12 under par.

Ko found the greenside bunker and missed her birdie chance.

It is Perry's first national title.
