The former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns says winning his libel action against the former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi lifts a dark cloud.
The judge in the London High Court said Modi had failed to provide any reliably evidence that Cairns was involved in match-fixing or spot-fixing, or even strong grounds for suspicion of cheating.
The 41-year-old all-rounder was awarded £90,000, while Modi must also pay court costs.
Cairns wasn't in court, but he issued a statement saying the decision had lifted a dark cloud hanging over him for the past two years.
He says he was sad that they had to put himself, family and friends through this, but he also feels great joy because his past career has come through unscathed and remains intact and because he had the courage to stand up in the highest court to defend my name.
Cairns says he feels great relief that he's able to walk into any cricket ground in the world with his head held high.
