Ross Taylor undergoes surgery

The New Zealand cricket captain Ross Taylor has had surgery on the forearm he broke while batting on Monday.

Taylor broke his ulna when he was struck by a delivery from South African pace bowler Morne Morkel during the third test at the Basin Reserve.

New Zealand Cricket medical director Ian Murphy says an orthopaedic surgeon has confirmed that the best management for the fracture was to have surgery.

Murphy says it's not anticipated Taylor will be able to play within the next four weeks but this will depend on how quickly the injury has healed and the captain's level of comfort.
