Taylor says he would have batted if he had to

The injured New Zealand cricket captain Ross Taylor says he would have batted in yesterday's drawn third test against South Africa if he had to.

Taylor had surgery on his broken forearm yesterday morning, as the Black Caps were doing their best to save the test at the Basin Reserve.

The homeside was struggling at 83 for 5, before Kane Williamson, Kruger van Wyk and Doug Bracewell saved the day.

Taylor says he was ready if required and went down to the ground when there was ten overs remaining in case he was needed.

Taylor is expected to be out of action for at least a month, but says he hasn't given up hope of playing some part of the Indian Premier League which starts in a week.
