Interim England coach appointed fulltime

Stuart Lancaster, the interim coach who has dragged the England rugby team "out of the gutter" has been given the job fulltime - through to the 2015 World Cup in England.

Lancaster has been in charge of the team since the resignation of Martin Johnson after England's disastrous World Cup campaign, and his first move was to drop a number of past-their-best senior players.

England's only loss in the Six Nations was to the champion Welsh side, making it very difficult for the RFU's new chief executive Ian Ritchie to look elsewhere, despite the impressive credentials of the former Springboks coach Nick Mallett.
