Junior rowing's top two prizes - the Maadi Cup for boys and the Levin Jubilee Cup for girls - are heading to Christchurch after major wins for Christ's College boys and St Margaret's girls on Lake Ruataniwha at Twizel.
Christ's College held on to just defeat holders Auckland Grammar in a thrilling blanket finish to the Maadi Cup after an epic race, while the Levin Jubilee Cup also went back to Christchurch, as St Margaret's edged holders Waikato Diocesan by about a third of a length.
Marlborough Boys' College won the top rowing prize for school fours in New Zealand - the Springbok Shield on the first day of finals.
Marlborough Boys' takes the shield back to the South Island for the first time since 1999, with Auckland Grammar second, Westlake College third and Hamilton Boys' High a distant fourth.
It is the first victory for the college in the Springbok after North Island schools have dominated the race in recent years.
In the equivalent event for the top junior girls' fours in the country, the Dawn Cup, St Peters School retained their title with an inspired Marlborough Girls - who were obviously benefitting from seeing the boys' dominant win - pipping Waikato Diocesan by about a foot.
