Windies in commanding position against Australia

12:13 pm on 9 April 2012

Shivnarine Chanderpaul's unbeaten century was the stand-out as the West Indies declared at 449 for 9 in the first innings of the first cricket test against Australia in Barbados.

Chanderpaul made 103 not out, eclipsing Brian Lara as the highest Test run scorer at Kensington Oval in the process, as the Windies took a strong position in the first of three Tests against Australia.

It was Chanderpaul's 25th Test hundred and fifth against Australia.

Ryan Harris (2-83) and David Warner (2-45) were the only multiple wicket-takers for Australia, whose bowlers endured a rough introduction to their Caribbean tour.

Australia reached 44 for no loss on day two before bad light stopped play.
