Following New Zealand's most successful ever world track cycling championships Bike New Zealand's High performance manager says we're starting to see the results of a huge investment in the sport

Alison Shanks' gold medal in the women's 3000m individual pursuit was the highlight of the UCI World Championships in Melbourne over the weekend and brought the New Zealand tally to five medals.

The other medals comprised bronze to the men's team pursuit, men's team sprint, Simon van Velthooven in the 1000m time trial and Westley Gough in the individual pursuit.

High Performance manager Mark Elliott, says there's no comparison to fours years ago ahead of the Beijing Olympics as the programme was still in its infancy and won only one world championship medal ahead of the Olympics.
