Camper round Cape Horn

6:50 am on 12 April 2012

The Team New Zealand boat Camper has rounded Cape Horn under the cover of darkness, marking a major milestone on their mission to complete Leg 5 of the Volvo Ocean Race from Auckland to Brazil.

The New Zealanders are likely to finish the leg ten days after the frontrunners and are expected to arrive in Brazil around the end of the week.

If they successfully complete Leg 5 they will receive 15 points, and return to third place on the overall leaderboard.

Skipper Chris Nicholson concedes it was late in the year to be taking on Cape Horn, but having been delayed by structural damage which forced the team to suspend racing last Tuesday for five days, there was little choice.
