The Hastings-born driver Greg Murphy is optimistic there will be a New Zealand V8 Supercar round come 2013 and the Hampton Downs race track, south of Auckland, is his preferred venue.
This weekend's round will be the fifth and final time the event will be held in Hamilton with heavy financial losses prompting the Hamilton City Council to withdraw its support for the event.
Murphy says he's disappointed it'll be Hamilton's last race but he can't see it being New Zealand's last.
He expects an announcement on a new race to be made over the next couple of weeks.
