New Zealand Olympic swimmer Glen Snyders is shocked by the recent death of Norwegian swimming champion Alexander Dale Oen.

Norway's first world swimming champion, Oen died of a suspected heart attack while he was attending an altitude camp in Arizona.

Alexander Dale Oen won the 100 metres breaststroke final at the world swimming championships in Shanghai last year.

Snyders, who was friends with Oen, had several races with the Norwegian and says he was a genuine medal prospect for the London Olympics this year.
