The New Zealand Cricket coach John Wright is to leave the position.

Wright, who has been in the job since late 2010, has declined an offer to extend his contract and will step down following the tour of the West Indies in August.

NZC Chief Executive David White says they were keen to see him continue his head coach role, however understand and respect his decision to look for another challenge.

White says they're keen to fill the role as soon as possible but are conscious that they need to take the time to find the right candidate who can take them through to the 2015 World Cup.

Wright says he appreciates the offer to extend his contract but after much consideration he feel it's the right time to move on and look at other opportunities.
