Wright claims he's not the right man for the job

The New Zealand cricket coach John Wright has cited a failure to see eye to eye with director of cricket John Buchanan as the major factor in his decision to step down from the role.

Wright, who has been in the job since late 2010, announced Tuesday he would finish as coach following the upcoming Black Caps tour to the West Indies, after declining an offer to extend his contract.

The NZC Chief Executive David White says they were keen for Wright to continue his head coaching role, however they understand and respect his decision to look for another challenge.

Wright says his coaching style didn't fit with Buchanan's plans and it's time to move on and look at other opportunities.

White says the NZC wants to fill the role as soon as possible but are conscious that they need to take the time to find the right candidate who can take them through to the 2015 World Cup.
