Murray pulls out of Madrid

Updated at 1:21 pm on 5 May 2012

The British world tennis number four Andy Murray has pulled out of next week's Madrid Masters with a back injury.

Murray reached the quarter-finals in 2009 and 2010 and the third round last year before falling to Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci.

A Madrid appearance was scheduled to assist Murray in his preparations for the French Open which begins on 27 May.

The 24-year-old Scot hopes to return to action at another Masters event in Rome later in the month.
