The Blues have been undergoing some remedial work with All Blacks world cup winning coach Sir Graham Henry and his replacement Steve Hansen as they try and drag themselves off the bottom of the Super rugby table.

Desperately missing skipper Kevan Mealamu, the Blues had hoped he'd be back from a calf injury for this weekend's game against the South African side the Lions.

But Mealamu aggravated the injury at training today and has been ruled out.

Coach Pat Lam is hoping a fresh perspective from Henry can help them get off the bottom of the competition.

Meanwhile the former All Blacks coach John Mitchell's warning Super rugby competition leaders the Chiefs not to get too carried away by their success.

Mitchell's South African based Lions side was beaten 34-21 by the Chiefs at Pukekohe at the weekend.

But Mitchell who coached the Chiefs before becoming All Black coach, says the Chiefs will have to improve in the second half of the competition as their are areas of their play which can be exploited.
