Manchester City's moved to within touching distance of its first title for 44 years, wtih a two nil win over Newcastle in their penultimate English premier league football match of the season.

A win over relegation threatened Queens Park Rangers in their final match will secure City the title.

While they're level on points with Manchester United who had a two nil win over Swansea, City are eight ahead on goal difference.

Tottenham Hotspur missed the chance to leapfrog Arsenal and move into third spot drawing one all with Aston Villa and are a point behind Arsenal.

Newcastle and Chelsea are fifth and sixth respectively with Chelsea having two games remaining the first of which is against Liverpool who they beat in the weekend's FA Cup final.

The Champions League places and final relegation spots will also be decided on the last day.

Chelsea are unlikely to finish on the top four but they can still qualify for the Champions League by beating Bayern Munich in the final later this month.

At the other end of the table, QPR improved their chances of avoiding relegation with a one nil win over Stoke City.

That result leaves Bolton Wanderers in trouble in 18th place after a two all draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are consigned to the Championship next season and will be joined by two from Wigan Athletic, QPR, Bolton or Blackburn will go down.
