Blues captain says players to blame for horror season

Updated at 12:36 pm on 10 May 2012

The Blues captain Keven Mealamu says the players must shoulder the blame for their dismal Super Rugby season and putting coach Pat Lam in the position he's in.

The Blues have announced they'll advertise Lam's job next week after the side stumbled their way to just one win from 10 games, the worst record in the franchise's history.

Lam has hinted he's exploring his options overseas.

However an emotional Mealamu is standing by the embattled Lam.

He says the players have failed their coach.
