NZRU may have smothered Blues coach with too much support

The New Zealand Rugby Union believes it may have smothered Blues coach Pat Lam with too much support, in the wake of the side's dismal Super Rugby season.

Lam's four-year term appears set to come to an end with the NZRU announcing it's advertising the coaching position.

The Blues are last in the competition with just one win from 10 games and the results have led to criticism of Lam and even racist taunts.

The NZRU's general manager of professional rugby Neil Sorenson says they've offered Lam plenty of support and may even have gone too far.
