The Blues have ended a seven-game losing streak, beating the South African side the Lions 25-3, in their Super rugby match in Auckland.
The win is just their second in 11 games this season and lifts them off the bottom of the competition ladder.
It's the Lions ninth loss in 10 games and they replace the Blues at the bottom of the competition.
The New South Wales Waratahs' playoff hopes are all but over after losing to the Pretoria based Bulls 27-24 in Sydney.
The Waratahs dominated territory and possession and led 24-20 in the closing stages but the Bulls scored a try with two minutes remaining to snatch the game.
