Davison holds off Lowndes for V8 victory

Ford driver Will Davison held off Holden's Craig Lowndes to win the V8 Supercar race at Phillip Island on Sunday and re-take the championship lead.

In a race with four safety cars and several accidents, Davison emerged to put aside a difficult Saturday race in which he crashed out spectacularly with just three laps remaining.

He held off fast-finishing Lowndes, who was closing at the rate of a second a lap late in Sunday's 45-lap race, with Team BOC's Jason Bright third.

It was Davison's sixth win from the 11 races this season and he now leads Holden driver Jamie Whincup by 10 points in the championship. Whincup could only manage fifth as he slowed late in the race because of tyre degradation.
