All-time Spanish record goalscorer David Villa has lost his race to be fit for next month's Euro 2012 football tournament.
The 30-year-old - scorer of 51 goals in 82 internationals - had been a major doubt since breaking his leg at last December's World Club Championship.
However, the Barcelona star was given time by national coach Vicente del Bosque to prove his fitness but time finally ran out as the defending European champions arrived at their training camp in Austria.
