Swansea City say their coach Brendan Rodgers is poised to be appointed Liverpool manager after being offered the job by the Anfield club.

In a statement on the club's website, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins says Rodgers has informed them that he would like to take up their offer to manage Liverpool, following discussions with Liverpool's owners.

The 39-year-old Northern Irishman guided the Welsh side to a respectable 11th-place finish in the Premier League last season, their first campaign at the highest level since 1983.

The BBC is reporting that the Merseyside club is prepared to pay Swansea up to five million pounds in compensation to secure his services.
