The Olympic 1500m silver medallist Nick Willis has run the second fastest mile time of his career but still had to settle for seventh at the Diamond League Athletics meeting in Oregon.

Willis was beaten home by six African runners, with Kenya's Olympic champion Asbel Kiprop winning the race and finishing almost two and a half seconds ahead of Willis.

Willis ran 3 minutes 51.77 seconds.

The New Zealand javelin thrower Stuart Farquhar finished third in his event.

Farquhar went into the meeting with the best throw in the world for the year, with 86.31 metres, but was unable to get near that distance throwing 82.23 metres.

Latvia's Vadims Vasilevkis won the event with a throw of 84.65 metres.
