Eels win second game of season

11:42 am on 5 June 2012

The Parramatta rugby league club's chief executive Bob Bentley has labelled his side's win over Cronulla as a turning point in the Eels' disappointing season, and he's dismissed reports that coach Stephen Kearney's head's been on the chopping block.

Weekend reports suggested Kearney had been given two weeks to revive the side's dismal season, and on Monday night the Eels beat the Sharks 29-20, after trailing 20-6 at half-time.

Parramatta's superstar fullback Jarrod Hayne inspired his side to victory by scoring two tries and setting up a third, after the Cronulla playmaker Todd Carney had controlled the first half.

The Eels' second win of the season leaves them still four points behind the second to last team Canberra, while the Sharks stay in sixth place.

The Warriors are ninth after their 22-12 loss to the leaders Melbourne at the weekend.
