Sharapova on verge of career slam in Paris

4:21 pm on 9 June 2012

The French Open men's final unsurprisingly comes down to Serbia's world tennis number one Novak Djokovic against six-time champion Rafael Nadal, after Djokovic beat Roger Federer on Saturday morning in the semi-finals, and Nadal saw off fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, both in straight sets.

While Nadal may find Djokovic a tough proposition on Monday morning, few expect Sara Errani to greatly trouble Maria Sharapova in the women's final overnight.

It's the Italian outsider's first grand slam final, while Sharapova is only missing the Paris major from her career collection.

Sharapova's hoping to become the first woman since Serena Williams in 2003 to complete her set of slams... but Errani has already tasted victory on the Paris red clay - she's won the doubles with her compatriot Roberta Vinci, coming from a set down to beat the Russian pair of Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova 4-6 6-4 6-2.
