Sharapova gets career grand slam with French Open title

Maria Sharapova won the French tennis Open by beating Italian Sara Errani 6-3 6-2 to complete her collection of career grand slam trophies.

Despite the one-sided scoreline, Errani troubled Sharapova with some clever volleys, sliced forehands, and daring dropshots but the Russian kept her poise to outwit and outpower Errani in her first major final.

The win meant Sharapova became the 10th woman to complete a career grand slam after she added the Paris title to her triumphs at Wimbledon in 2004, the U.S. Open in 2006, and the Australian Open in 2008.

The French Open win capped a remarkable comeback for Sharapova after many thought her career was all but over when she underwent shoulder surgery in 2008.

Sharapova dropped to her knees when she won and told the crowd it was a magnificent moment in her career after a long journey.
