The three top women's seeds at the Eastbourne grasscourt tennis tournament have been dumped in the opening round, just a few days out from Wimbledon.
The defending Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, the second seed in Eastbourne, the top seed Agniezka Radwanska and the former world number one Caroline Wozniacki were all toppled.
Kvitova, who lost in straight sets to the Russian Ekaterina Makarova, will start her Wimbledon defence without winning a match on grass this year.
