Laurent Blanc quits job as French coach

Laurent Blanc will leave his post as France's national football coach after asking for his contract to not be renewed.

The former Manchester United defender led the country through qualifying for the Euro 2012 championships and group stage but they were knocked out by Spain in the tournament's quarter finals.

Blanc has already been linked with becoming the new Tottenham Hotspur manager after Harry Redknapp was sacked last month.

Former France captain Didier Deschamps is widely tipped to take over as national coach.
