Michael Phelps has decided to drop the 200 metres freestyle from his schedule for next month's Olympics, leaving him with only seven events for his Games swansong.
Phelps qualified for eight competitions, the same number he swam at Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008.
But his coach says dropping one event will help preserve him for the US team's relays.
