One-dayer rained out at Edgbaston

11:44 am on 5 July 2012

The third one-day cricket international between England and Australia at Edgbaston has been abandoned without a ball being bowled because of rain.

The umpires inspected the ground regularly but every time it seemed play would be possible another downpour arrived.

There was not enough time left to dry the ground sufficiently and still allow for the minimum of a 20 overs per side match.

England, 2-0 up in the five-match series, will no longer be able to go to number one in the one-day international world rankings ahead of Australia because they needed to win the series 5-0.
