F1 test driver loses eye in crash

The Spanish Formula One test driver Maria De Villota has lost her right eye and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital following a crash at Duxford airfield in England.

The 32-year-old, the daughter of former Spanish Formula One driver Emilio De Villota, has undergone extensive surgey for facial and head injuries suffered when her car suddenly accelerated into the back of a truck after completing a test run.

De Villota's helmet took much of the impact.
