Shooter will compete in London

Updated at 4:56 pm on 7 July 2012

The Levin shooter Ryan Taylor has been selected to the New Zealand Olympic Team for London 2012 after his successful appeal over his omission was ratified.

The confirmation of Taylor's place in the team in the 50-metre prone rifle category comes after an application to the International Shooting Federation for the re-allocation of a shooting quota spot was approved.

Taylor lodged the appeal with the Sports Tribunal after women's trap shooter Natalie Rooney was initially allocated New Zealand's sole quota spot.

Taylor claimed New Zealand Shooting hadn't supplied correct information about his performances to the New Zealand Olympic Committee and that the national body's judgement he couldn't finish in the top 16 was wrong.

When told last month he wasn't going to London Taylor questioned how he couldn't be considered a top 16 prospect when he'd recently posted scores which would have earnt him a bronze medal in Beijing four years ago.
