Canes keep season alive - for now

7:32 am on 14 July 2012

A controversial late try to the Hurricanes hooker Dane Coles has clinched a 28-25 victory over the Chiefs and kept the Hurricanes' slim Super Rugby playoffs hopes alive.

More than four minutes after the final hooter had sounded Coles was caught short driving for the line but in an identical situation to the Crusaders' win over the Chiefs last weekend, he was propelled across the chalk by his team-mates.

The Hurricanes can still miss out on the finals unless at least two of the Crusaders, Sharks, Reds and Bulls slip up in their final regular season games.

The Chiefs had already won the New Zealand conference and will head into the playoffs in at least second overall.
