New Black Caps coach wants consistent performances

The new coach of the New Zealand cricket team says the lack of consistency is the Black Caps' biggest flaw - but he admits he faces a massive challenge addressing the problem.

Mike Hesson's the new national coach on a contract until the end of the 2015 World Cup. He was New Zealand 'A' coach coached Otago for six years and had a brief stint with Kenya last year

Hesson says consistency is the team's biggest failing but he's not exactly clear about how he's going to fix it.

Hesson will take over from John Wright as coach for the Black Caps tour of India which starts at the end of next month.

He says he doesn't envisage having any problems working with the national director of cricket, John Buchanan.

The outgoing Wright has been critical of Buchanan's power over the day-to-day running of the Black Caps and cites his clashes of philosophy with the Australian for his departure.

However Hesson, who's just 37, says he's not anticipating any ego clashes with Buchanan...
