Amla makes South African history at the Oval

Hashim Amla has made South African cricket history as the first Proteas batsman to score a triple century in test cricket.

On day four of the first test against England at the Oval in London, South Africa declared at 637 for two in their first innings, with Amla unbeaten on 311 and Jacques Kallis 182 not out.

Earlier Graeme Smith had made 131.

England will start the final day on 102 for four, still 150 runs behind South Africa's first innings total.
