The American golfer Scott Piercy has won the Canadian Open by one shot after countrymen William McGirt and Robert Garrigus missed chances on the final hole to force a playoff.
Piercy won his second PGA Tour title after firing a three-under par 67 in the penultimate group to finish 17-under for the tournament.
But he had to nervously watch as McGirt bogeyed out of a share of the lead and Garrigus left a 14-foot birdie effort short on the 18th hole in Ontario to finish at 16-under.
Piercy now qualifies for the lucrative World Golf Championships in Akron, Ohio, next week forcing him to miss out on defending his Reno-Tahoe Open title from 2011.
