Franklin and Patel return to Black Caps test squad

12:45 pm on 7 August 2012

The Wellington cricketers James Franklin and Jeetan Patel have been recalled to the New Zealand test squad for the tour of India.

The Canterbury batsman Dean Brownlie has been dropped after a disappointing tour of the West Indies.

The national selection manager Kim Littlejohn says Franklin who played his last test a year and a half ago against Pakistan has been brought in to bolster the batting.

Offspinner Patel, who's been playing for English county side Warwickshire comes in for the injured Dan Vettori who missed the second test in Jamaica with a thigh injury and hasn't recovered.

Patel's last test was in November last year against Zimbabwe.

The first test against India is in Hyderabad and begins two weeks on Thursday.

The full squad is:

Ross Taylor captain, Trent Boult, Doug Bracewell, Daniel Flynn, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Tarun Nethula, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Kruger van Wyk, Neil Wagner, BJ Watling

Kane Williamson.
