Meyer considering Botha for Rugby Championship

The Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has not ruled out a possible recall for veteran lock Bakkies Botha ahead of the Rugby Championship.

South Africa's first-choice lock Eben Etzebeth damaged a hip cartilage and has flown to Johannesburg to consult a specialist.

Whilst team doctor Craig Roberts couldn't predict what the outcome of the tests will show, Meyer sprang a surprise when he said he was considering a call-up for Botha.

Currently playing for French Top 14 side Toulon, Botha's last appearance in the green and gold was during last year's Rugby World Cup against Namibia.

He was then forced home with an ongoing Achilles heel injury, missing the Springboks' final group game against Samoa and the quarter-final defeat to Australia.
