Troubled youngster James Roberts has found a new home at Penrith for the next two National Rugby League seasons.

A South Sydney junior, Roberts had been touted as a player with a big future but was sacked by the Rabbitohs last month after repeated off field indiscretions.

The Panthers general manager Phil Gould welcomed the acquisition of the speedy outside back, who is the nephew of former NRL player Amos Roberts.

Gould says Roberts is an elite footballing talent, who has faced some challenges in his personal life, and the Panthers are looking forward to helping him build the kind of career his talent deserves.

The 19-year-old Roberts played 10 first grade games for the Rabbitohs.

Penrith have also announced the signing of 22-year-old back-rower Matt Robinson for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
