Golf's bad boy John Daly has revealed his mother passed away while he was in Australia last year, perhaps contributing to his Australian Open walk off.
After a four-under par 68 to be just two shots from the lead in the first round of the US PGA Championship in South Carolina, the two-time major champion spoke of the family tragedy.
Daly hit several golf balls into the water on the 11th hole at Sydney tournament before walking off the course.
Tournament director Trevor Herden labelled his performance unprofessional and it was suggested it would be the final time he'd be welcomed to Australian events.
Daly says he didn't mention his mother's death to the tournament organisers but says did talk to some media about it but it wasn't reported at the time.
