New Zealand golfer and world amateur number one, Lydia Ko has won the US Women's Amateur Championship, beating American Jaye Marie in the 36 hole final at the Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

Ko, who was never behind in the match, was one up after 18 holes this morning before turning on a master-class when it mattered most in the final 18 holes.

The New Zealand rep produced one of the shots of the tournament - an eagle two on the par four sixth - to go up by two shots.

She held on in the remaining holes to finish with a 3 shot win, to go with her one shot win in the first 18 holes.

In winning, Lydia Ko became the first New Zealand woman to claim the US Amateur title.
