Swimming and triathlon have been singled out as New Zealand's under performers at the London Olympics, by funding agency High Performance Sport New Zealand.

New Zealand won 13 medals at the Games, to equal the previous best total achieved in Seoul in 1988.

The chief executive of HPSNZ, Alex Bauman, says while New Zealand has done well overall swimming and triathlon were disappointing.

He says swimming, which has received almost $7.5 million in high performance funding over the past four years had a target of reaching five finals but only made two.

While triathlon, which has recieved $7 million and went into the Games with Andrea Hewitt ranked world number, was on course to produce a medal but didn't.

Bauman says a review of the Games performances will now be carried out which will have implications for future high performance funding and also set targets for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero and beyond.
