Pumas and Springboks draw in Argentina

9:24 am on 26 August 2012

Argentina and South Africa have drawn 16-16 in the first-ever Rugby Championship test in Argentina.

The Pumas led 13-3 at half-time in Mendoza. Both teams scored one try apiece.

Second five Santiago Fernandez scored his first test try to huge applause at Mendoza, strolling unopposed under the posts after good work up the middle by his forwards as the Pumas took a 10-0 lead before the quarter mark.

The two sides exchanged penalties for a 13-3 half-time lead to the hosts before Springbok No.12 Francois Steyn charged down a clearing kick, the conversion levelling the scores.

The draw hands the advantage in the competition to New Zealand, after the All Blacks thrashed the Wallabies 22-0 at Eden Park, to make it two wins from two tests.
