The New Zealand women's cricket captain Suzie Bates is to play for the Perth based Western Fury in the Australian National Cricket League.

Bates, a top order batter and right-arm medium pace bowler, has played 45 one-day and 43 Twenty20 matches for the White Ferns since making her international debut in 2006.

She represented New Zealand in basketball at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Bates is likely to play four of the six one day rounds with the Fury and also the T20 competition.

The Fury hope her signing will help them improve on their last placing last season.
