Play-off spots still up for grabs in National Hockey League

Seven of the eight men's teams are still in contention for semifinals spots with one round to play in the National Hockey League.

The Auckland men booked their play-off spot with a win over Canterbury in Auckland.

Six teams are chasing the other three spots. Capital had a chance to confirm their place but were pushed into a penalty shoot-out before they came out on top against North Harbour.

Both Southern and Midlands collected victories to join the semifinals race along with North Harbour, Central and Canterbury.

Meanwhile in the women's competition, Midlands women kept their play-off hopes alive with a comfortable 4-1 win over Central.

Canterbury women stayed unbeaten at the top of the table with a 3-1 victory over North Harbour.

Auckland confirmed their semifinals spot with a 4-1 win over Southern, while Capital joined Midlands and North Harbour in the race for the other two spots with a 3-2 win over Northland.

The final round matches are today.
