The Western Province prop Frans Malherbe has been called up to the Springbok squad for this weekend's Rugby Championship clash with the All Blacks in Dunedin.
The 21-year-old Malherbe, who trained with the Springboks in June during the England series, effectively replaces the suspended Eben Etzebeth in the squad.
Coach Heyneke Meyer says Malherbe's call-up is purely precautionary as their two tighthead props on tour are struggling with injuries.
Jannie du Plessis and Pat Cilliers have not trained with the Boks yet this week and Meyer says they'll give them as much time as needed to regain their fitness.
Malherbe is due to arrive in Auckland this evening.
The Springbok team will be named today.
