America's IndyCar motor racing series has gone right down to the wire with local driver Ryan Hunter-Reay clinching the 2012 crown at a thrilling season-ending race in California.
Australia's championship leader Will Power crashed out at Fontana, so Hunter-Reay's fourth place was enough to narrowly take the title - by just three points.
Auckland driver Scott Dixon finished 3rd behind race winner Ed Carpenter and Target team-mate Dario Franchitti, after starting 15th on the grid... Dixon took out 3rd place in the overall IndyCar standings.
