Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe in T20 World Cup opener

Hosts Sri Lanka have beaten Zimbabwe by 82 runs in the opening match of the World Twenty20 cricket tournament.

Sri Lanka scored 182 for four with Kuma Sangakkara making 44 and Jeevan Medis an unbeaten 43.

Spin bowler Ajantha Mendis then recorded the best ever international Twenty20 figures of six for eight as Zimbabwe were dismissed for 100 in the 18th over.

Overnight Australia play Ireland and Afghanistan play India.
