Allrounder James Franklin looks set to be elevated up the batting order to open for the New Zealand cricketers in their opening Twenty20 World Cup match against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka tomorrow night.
Franklin was tried there during one of the Black Caps warmup matches and both coach Mike Hesson and captain Ross Taylor commentated favourably about the possibility of him playing there again to anchor one end.
In his three Twenty20 matches in recent weeks in India and now Sri Lanka, Guptil has managed scores of one, five and eight.
